Dear Members of Avon Trail,
The weather has been hot as of late, but the trail beckons us to get out and enjoy the benefits of walking, both physically and mentally.
Through the Summer, the board will continue to monitor changes to the restrictions caused by the pandemic. If practical, we plan to restart hikes of small groups in September. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of caution. Now, more than ever, we need to be ambassadors of goodwill on the trail. Be respectful of hikers you encounter along the Avon Trail.
We are pleased to announce that we are well on our way to achieving our goal in this fundraising appeal through the generosity of all who have sent donations directed toward the building of the Bamberg Bridge. We have reached $1,600 of our $2,000 goal needed for bridge-building materials. Once completed, the Sandhills Side Trail will connect to the main trail via this bridge, leading to reduced road walking on both Sandhills and Carmel-Koch Roads, a significant accomplishment for Avon Trail. Bridge construction should begin within two weeks.
It is heartening to have this support from our membership and beyond.
Stay safe, everyone and enjoy the Summer.
In appreciation,
Avon Trail Board
