Hike Ontario Summit date set for Saturday, Sept. 29

Reps from twelve hiking clubs met in Oakville on January 27, and were joined via ‘Go-to-meeting’, by reps from 5 additional clubs as distant as the Voyageur (Sudbury) and the Rideau (Ottawa), and everything in between.  An exciting announcement was made. Hike Ontario will be co-hosting the Annual Summit in Orillia with the Ganaraksa Hiking Trail Association as co-sponsors. Our Annual Meeting will take place on Saturday, September 29. There will be a Hikers’ Pub Night on Friday, September 28.  This is a great event, offering a feature speaker, workshops, local hikes and the Hike Leader and Safe Hiker Courses.

Encouraging reports were shared as part of the Board meeting – an increase in Hike Leader and Map and Compass courses offered, improvements to the Hike Ontario website (hikeontario.com), application for funding a French version of the Young Hiker Manual. Clubs reported the highlights of recent activities, always a stimulating segment of the meeting.

Past President, Tom Friesen, continues to give leadership to Hike Ontario while a committee actively seeks candidates to fill vacant positions including that of President.
