Thanks to Avon Trail volunteers, there is less litter along Highway 7/8 from the Stratford Side Trail to line 110.
“This is a 4 kilometre section of road that Avon Trail has taken on as part of the Adopt a Highway program”, said Brian Tarr, the organizer of the cleanup.
Twice a year Brian arranges an evening for volunteers to participate in a safe, organized manner to clean litter debris along the roadside ditches both east and west on this highway section.
On Monday evening, May 6, twelve volunteers, working both sides of the road and adjacent ditches, collected 33 bags of garbage and 5 bags of recycle material.
As Brian noted, that is a lot of litter that is no longer lying along the road on the entrance to the city, used by many tourists to our community.
Following this cleanup, the volunteers met at the Festival Mall food court. Brenda Tarr provided tasty treats as a fitting reward for all participants.
