Now for the good news. In a letter to Avon Trail President Bruce Graham, rare Charitable Research Reserve Director Stephanie Sobek-Swant announced, “that as of October 30, the Schneider property donation has officially been COMPLETED!”
Stephanie thanks Jane and Fred Schneider “for their foresight in protecting these amazing 235 acres while sharing them with the community for gentle passive use”.
She goes on to say, “We thank their children, grandchildren and extended family members for their selfless generosity in carrying on this legacy and continuing to work with us and the community to make sure the lands will be a promise kept”.
In her letter, Stephanie says that rare Charitable Research Reserve has worked with the Township of Wilmot to arrive at a solution for winter parking on Carmel-Koch Road.
rare is hoping that the existing roadside parking can be improved by next winter. The goal is to hold 20 cars, enhancing access during the winter months, particularly for beginner skiers. The anticipated costs for the parking project is $70,000. Funds must also be raised for the stewardship of this property, covering the cost of ongoing and future maintenance. Stephanie encourages people who enjoy access to this land to choose from a variety of options to make a cash gift.
