On Monday 11th June, 12 volunteers participated in the Avon Trail’s first “Adopt-a-Highway” cleanup covering 3 kms on Hwy7/8 to and from Road 109.  Working together as a team, we collected an astonishing 28 bags of garbage and 9 bags of recyclables which we left at several points along the highway for the Ministry to collect the next day.  We received support from a few passing motorists who honked in appreciation and from a homeowner who called out, “Thank you very much” from her front door.

Thanks to the Cleanup Crew –  Bernice Oldenburg, Warren Breedon, Tom Kimber, Julia Vryheid, Brenda Tarr, Bernard Goward, Gloria Hinz, Tom Warnock, Steve Thorpe, Marija Kelemen and Bob Zarichansky for contributing to the success of our first highway cleanup. With this learning experience behind us, the next cleanup scheduled for Monday, 1st  October will go even more smoothly.
