SUMMARY:Maitland Trail - Black Hole Road to BenMiller
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY AUGUST 20\, : MAITLAND TRAIL—BLACK HOLE ROAD TO BENMILLER – Registration is required as there are limited spots available. We will hike rain or shine. Carpooling available but not guaranteed.  \nMeet at 8:15AM at NW parking lot of Giant Tiger (477 Huron St\, Stratford\, N5A 5T8) for 8:30am sharp departure to car pool to starting point. \nDistance: 12 km.\nPace: Medium.\nTerrain: Challenging.\nDuration: 6 hrs (1 hr travel each way\, 4 hrs hiking\, lunch break).   \nDetails:  This trail follows the Maitland River’s meandering route\, through the gorge\, along a hog’s back ridge\, through mature woodland\, Morris Tract and Falls Reserve Conservation Area. This is a CHALLENGING hike with steep up and down sections\, some with stairs.  There are washrooms and an area for picnicking in the Falls Reserve C.A.  \nCar shuttle will be used. MASKS REQUIRED for car pooling and shuttle (at driver’s discretion).\nReturn to Stratford by 3 PM. \nPack a snack\, lunch and water. Bug spray and sun protection advisable. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY August 27\, 2022:  THAMES VALLEY TRAIL – RIVER VALLEY GOLF COURSE TO ST. MARY’S (Water Street).   \nRegistration is required as there are limited spots available. Masks required for car pooling and car shuffle (driver’s discretion).  \nMeet at 8:45AM in the NW corner of the Giant Tiger parking lot\, to carpool to starting point\, departing at 9:00AM sharp. \nDistance:  10km\nPace:  Medium to fast\nTerrain:  Moderate to Challenging\n Duration: 5 hours (1 hr. travel\, including car shuffle\, 3 hrs hike) \n This section of the trail is rugged\, with steep slopes and often stony ground.  Trail may be slippery when wet\, numerous groundhog holes along edges of fields.  Heavy concentration of hardwood forest in parts. (Map 6 Thames Valley Trail guide). \nPlease bring water\, snack or lunch\, insect repellent\, sunscreen. Wear sturdy hiking shoes.  Dress appropriately for the weather.
